Questions to ask at an eye exam

A good examination is also a good conversation. These questions can help parents leave with a clearer understanding.

Before the exam

  • Should I bring previous prescriptions or exam results?
  • Does family history of myopia matter?
  • Which signs at home or school are important to mention?

During or after the exam

  • What is the current prescription, and has it changed?
  • How often should follow-up be scheduled?
  • Are there additional measurements worth monitoring over time?
  • Which options may be relevant, and what are their benefits and limitations?
  • What requires daily consistency from the child or parents?

Questions about habits

You can ask about outdoor time, breaks from reading and screens, lighting, working distance, and when to return if new signs appear.
